Consider Operation Love From Home, Inc. as your group project!
Please forward the following letter request to anyone you feel could use these ideas for their organization or group. This is a fantastic group idea for churches, schools, scout troops, neighborhoods, etc.
To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to ask your staff to consider Operation Love From Home, Inc. for your group project. I request your assistance in honoring our military. Your group will thoroughly enjoy writing out thank you cards to express their gratitude for our military. They will understand the concept and will also put a lot of thought into their expression.
Operation Love From Home, Inc., is a non-profit, non-political organization that collects and ships holiday cards, letters, and care package items to our deployed military all over the world. Our current drive is geared towards sending thank you cards during the upcoming holiday season.
We have found that soldiers are touched deeply by the heartfelt gratitude of our young Americans. It encourages the troops, lifts their spirit and sends them some love from home while they are away.
The cards we help ship are scanned and proofread for content. We do not ship cards that may contain inappropriate or negative language. We also ask for individuals to refrain from making political statements of any nature. Our cards cannot be sent to specific military personnel. It is necessary to explain that to the children, as they generally think their relative will receive their hand-made card. Children are more than welcome to sign their first name, age & school but they should refrain from listing their last name and/or home address/phone numbers.
There are several ways your group can personalize their cards. They can make a complete hand made card with artwork and a note of thanks. Another idea is for young children to use the card as a coloring sheet, where the card has been created for them but should be decorated and signed. They could use stamp sets to decorate their card. Teachers and coordinators should bear in mind the cards will be shipped around the world and should avoid having the children decorate with items that could fall loose. Cards do not need to be in an envelope.
The cards could be created as a potential art class project. Perhaps it could be suggested as a classroom project as well. I feel this can assist the children in their artistic skills as well as language arts.
Our current Valentine's Day card drive will run from December 15, 2009 through January 24, 2010. All cards must be received by us no later than Saturday, January 24, 2010. Thank you for your assistance and consideration. Please contact me with any questions you may have regarding your card donations. My e-mail is: Gail@OperationLoveFromHome.org . Thank you,
