We did it! We've collected 5,916 cards for the 4th of July card drive. Thank you all!

Our goal at Operation Love From Home is to bring light to those who suffer and combat the darkness for us. We can never fully comprehend the hardships that our enlisted men and women endure while deployed to ensure our safety and freedom.  We know we can offer them the classic comfort of compassion, the simple gift of gratitude, and the knowledge that their countrymen at home are behind them.  They will never be forgotten or taken for granted.

Our Fourth of July Card Drive
was a success!

Who's Been Talking About Us?

As some of you might know, Operation Love From Home is a "grassroots" organization that began in March of 2008. Our President, Momma Kat, has been conducting card drives on her own for a couple of years, but she decided that she needed help. Enter the Board of Directors (you can read about us all on the "About Us" page). We started out with a shoestring budget, card stock that we cut and stamped to make cards, and a dream that we could make sure that every soldier would have at least one piece of mail to read for the holidays.

Our website, since going live a couple of months ago, averages about 300-400 hits per day. Imagine our surprise when we found out that yesterday, we were visited by over THREE THOUSAND people!! Not to mention that we got in over 200 e-cards for our troops yesterday alone! Up until yesterday, we'd only collected a little over one hundred in the month or so that the option has been available on our website.

We don't have an advertising budget...so somebody out there is really talking us up. Someone blogged about us, or sent out an email with our web address, or even told a friend about a site they found to send a card to a soldier. Someone else saw what we were trying to accomplish here, and decided to help us out by spreading the word - after all, we can't do this by ourselves! There are hundreds of thousands of troops stationed in remote and dangerous areas all over the world, and we could never dream of bringing them cards and packages without the help of people like you!

So whoever you are, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your kind words of support in our Guest Book mean so much to all of us that have put in hours and hours of work to make this organization a reality. Thank you for helping us to bring a smile and a little bit of "LOVE FROM HOME" to our brave men and women fighting for our very freedom every day.

First "Card Counting" Party

The Board held our first official Card Reading and Counting Party tonight, and we had a great time! It's so touching to read these cards - especially the ones created by children. The thing they come up with will either make you laugh (where do they get this stuff!!) or will bring a tear to your eye. You've gotta love them!

A special thanks goes out to "Grammie Rose", who not only sent us a crisp $5 bill to help with postage, but either cut out funny little comics or printed out a sheet of jokes to include with the cards she sent...although I did take offense at the blonde jokes, Grammie! Tongue out

Thank you to all of the teachers who sent in cards from their classrooms - those were a special joy to read. We got in a wonderful set from a special education teacher in Mississippi that any soldier will be proud to read and share. There was also a 6th grade class that did amazingly well - one of my favorite quotes was from a dear child whose real name was Ezekiel, or Zeke for short, but he signed his card "Lyle" because he liked that better. How precious is that?

Again, I'd like to thank everyone who mailed in cards, be it a large envelope with a classroom-ful of cards, or a smaller package with one or two. Every little bit helps, and it's all very appreciated - by us at Operation Love From Home, and by the soldier that will smile when it's read.

OLFH Fundraiser Rousing Success!

Our fundraiser that took place May 31st at the American Legion was a total blast! We had so much fun, met wonderful people, and raised some money, as well! It was certainly H-O-T outside, but it was well worth it when we counted up the pile of cards that got signed - thank you so much to everyone who came out to support our cause!

A special thanks goes out to all our sponsors - without you and your generous donations, we would have never pulled this off. We should definitely have enough funds to mail out our Fourth of July cards to Iraq and Afghanistan, and bring a smile or two to the face of a soldier so far away from home.

We'll be uploading some pictures of the festivities to our Photo Album, so check back soon!
